Class size limited to 10 Dogs, age 6 Months and above
All dogs must be current on vaccinations and dewormed, plus a prophylactic tick and flea treatment applied within 3 weeks of the start of the class. Deworming, prophylactic tick and flea treatment must be kept current during the course.
Class is held on a “clean” piece of land and it must be kept that way for the health of our dogs!
Classes focus is on Foundation behaviors that are not necessarily “obedience commands” This will make life easier for you and especially your dog when you have the cues to ask your dog what TO DO instead of yelling about what NOT TO DO. This course sets your dog up for a lifetime of Good Manners for the dog and an enjoyable companion for the family. Even if you have taught your dog some of these, this class will also work with real life distraction while practicing the cues.
We focus on Tellington Touch (Ear), Mat, Look, Touch, Wait and Back Up to set your dog up to be a well behaved, part of your family. We teach a new skill each week and practice what we have learned in previous lessons. We will also work on polite, successful greetings with other dogs.
If you need equipment for your dog, I have a limited supply of leashes, collars and training aprons available for sale.
- Plain buckle collar or harness preferred for class.
- NO Flexi or retractable leashes, a standard 6ft leash is preferable.
- Please bring an old bathmat or rug for teaching the Mat exercise, as long as most of the dog fits on it that’s fine.
- Treats should be in a training bag, bum bag, fanny pack or apron, you must be able to give them very fast. Opening a zip top bag or a tiny plastic container or digging them out of a pocket is not fast enough to let them know why they received a treat.
- Please bring tiny (pea size) bites of soft high value treats i.e. hotdog, cheese, etc. We will use many treats in teaching and reinforcing each new skill, so no less than 200 tiny treats per class.
