I hope everyone has had a great summer holiday in the (much) warmer parts of the world!

New Classes kick off on Saturday September 5th, in Ridgeways for puppies and a new class for older dogs. This is a follow on class for younger dogs or dogs that haven't yet learned to learn. This is our second to last round of classes for 2026, barring a few new one off sessions to be announced

The Monthly Tigoni Dog Walk has continued during the break, we are seeing some new dogs, new people and quite a bit of improvement in dogs that have been nervous or barky on earlier walks.

Stay tuned for a class I am co-teaching with Professional Pet Photographer Liz Walker. Liz will teach us how to get better photos with the gear you have, be it a phone or camera, and I will teach some great cues that will result in better staged photo opportunities with your dogs.

Do you have a new puppy or a dog that gets car sick?

During the break, I have made a few trips to Loisaba to work with a lovely, long time client and a new puppy. This has lead me down a rabbit hole on Latent Learning, which by definition is learning that is hidden or not immediately obvious.

In other words, what I was seeing and noticing was that the puppy would seemingly "almost' get a new behavior, then after lunch and a long nap, present the behavior correctly. The puppy's brain had time to consolidate the new information at rest.

This reinforces the idea that training need not be long sessions at home, but frequent sessions of 10-15 minutes, since hidden acquisition of knowledge, before it manifests in observable behavior, is quite common, especially in puppies and young dogs.
